Mr. Sprague’s Integrated Math II Classroom and Grading Policies
Name __________________
The following material will be covered during each semester in this from your Integrated Mathematics II textbook:
First Semester: Chapters 1-5
Second Semester: Chapters 6-10
Grading
Your grade will consist of a composite of three major parts:
1. Daily Assignments and notes- 20% of grade) It is recommended that each student keep and maintain a Math folder. Assignments will be collected on random days and will be the basis for your assignment grade. If you are absent on the day when assignments are collected, you will be expect to hand in that assignment when you return.
2. Class participation -- (10% of grade) Each day you will be given 0-5 points based on your time on task, and apparent effort. Unexcused absences receive zero points. As a reward for consistently high participation grade, I reserve the right to raise your grade by up to 3 % points
3. Tests and quizzes--(70% of grade) Quizzes may or may not be announced. Major tests will be administered at end of each chapter.
Final Exam: Everyone is expected to take a semester exam. In determining your semester grade, your final exam will be given a weight equal to 1/2 a marking period grade. In addition, a student must earn a passing grade in at least two of the four grades to pass semester. Letter grades will be used for averaging semester grade unless student stops showing effort during 3rd marking period. In such case, percentage grade will be used.
Grading Scale
The above percentages will be calculated and you will be given a letter grade according to the following scale:
100-99%................... …. A+ 77-79............. C+
93-98 ---------------------- A 73-76---------- C
90-92 --------------------- A- 70-72--------- C-
87-89 -------------- -------- B+ 67-69-------- D+
83-86 ---------------------- B 63-66--------- D
80-82 --------------------- B- 60-62 -----------D- (Below 60 E)
Materials:
You need paper, pencil, textbook, and math folder every day. This is your responsibility. You will have 1 point subtracted from your participation grade for each violation. Example: You come with no pencil and no textbook, you will have two points deducted from you daily participation grade.
General Classroom Procedures
1. Review and solve problems from previous day’s assignments
2. Check and possibly hand in assignments.
3. Presentation of new material
4. Practice application of new material
5. Assignments for day, due beginning of next class period
Turning in assignments for grade recording:
1. Assignments must be clearly labeled in the following form for credit:
Name on upper right corner_______________
Date Assignment given_______________
Assignment pages and problem numbers_______________
Class hour_______________
2. Work must be shown for each problem. Simply copying answers do not qualify.
3. Assignments will be handed in at beginning of class period immediately following review and questions. (Assignments handed in later during hour will be considered late with 2 point reduction in grade.)
4. Assignments will be graded according to the following scale:
5pts. Assignment completed with high degree of accuracy
4pts. Assignment completed, but with too many uncorrected errors
3pts. More than half of assignment completed with reasonable degree of accuracy
2 pts. Less than half of assignment completed correctly
1 pt. Only small portion of assignment completed
Make-up work
1. Daily assignments: When absent, it is your responsibility to find out what assignments you missed.
2. Obviously if you did not have assignment done when assignments were randomly collected, you will not be allowed to make it up. Late assignments will not be accepted.
3. Test or quiz make-up: If a student is absent on the day of a test, I allow him/her to make it up after school on the Wednesday following the original test day. This is the only opportunity for making up a test without prior arrangements being made.
Absences and tardies:
1. Tardies: School policy is that a student will receive detention for 3rd and 6th tardy followed by a referral at 9 tardies.
2. Absences: If you are absent, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to find out which assignments you missed. Also, according to school policy, student will be verbally notified at 5 absences, counselor referral at 8, and will be dropped from class at 15 absences if also failing course.
Food and gum & headphones
No candy, food, or headphones!! Gum will be tolerated if not offensive.
Hall Passes
2 Hall Passes per Marking Period will be allowed. When they are gone, they are gone, so use them wisely. I do keep track. Beyond two passes, punish work will be assigned
Disruptive Behavior:
Disruptive behavior consists of the following:
Talking out of turn during class presentation, throwing of any objects, out of seat without permission, hitting or pushing another student, verbally berating another student. Action: :
First time, student will be sent to hall for remainder of hour,
Second time, student will be sent to hall followed by a parent call,
Third time, student will be sent to office with a referral following.
Naturally, a severe offense such as verbal or physical fighting, flagrant cursing, destruction of school property, etc. will result in an immediate referral.
Personal Behavior Helps:
· I will bring all the materials necessary for classroom work, knowing that when I am prepared, I learn more..
· I will be on time to class knowing that it will help me and the class use time wisely.
· I will conduct myself in a quiet and polite manner while in class because I refuse to deprive myself and others of opportunities to learn.
· I will remain in my seat unless permission is granted to move , because I do not wish to distract others.
· I will work hard to complete all work assigned because I want to prove I deserve the high grades I will receive.
· Because I respect honestly, I will not cheat or help any other student to cheat at any time.
· I will respect the feelings of others, knowing it will help me to respect myself
· I will not ask to leave the room for any reason except the most extreme emergency because I do not want to miss any instruction in class.
Results of positive behavior:
· Positive working environment
· Compliments
· Good Grades
· Positive feeling about oneself
· Happy parents
